14 Seagulls
I was driving to the local grocery store today, not five minutes from my house. I arrived at the store, found a parking spot, and parked my car. I got out of the car and heard a strange sound. It was a caw. I recognized that sound. I thought to myself, “I couldn’t have just heard a caw. Seagulls make a caw sound. I remember that sound, from the sea. I went there when I was a little girl. Seagulls make that sound. I couldn’t have just heard a caw.” Just then I heard another caw.
I turned my head in the direction the sounds came from. There, in the distance, were 14 seagulls. I counted them to make sure. 14 seagulls. Milling around the parking lot, looking for food. My home is thousands of miles away from the ocean. I thought to myself, “What are they doing here? They are so out of place.” My next thought was, “Maybe they are the ones that are supposed to be here.
Maybe we are the ones out of place.”
14 Gaviotas del Mar
Yo estaba conduciendo a la tienda local de hoy en día no, a cinco minutos de mi casa. Llegué a la tienda, encontró un lugar de estacionamiento, y estacioné mi coche. Salí del coche y escuchó un sonido extraño. Era un caw. Me di cuenta de que el sonido. Me dije a mí mismo: "Yo no podría haber escuchado un caw. Gaviotas del mar hacen un sonido caw. Recuerdo que el sonido, desde el mar. Fui allí cuando yo era una niña. Gaviotas del mar hacen que el sonido. Yo no podría haber escuchado un caw." En ese momento oí a otro caw. Volví la cabeza en la dirección de los sonidos de procedencia. Allí, en la distancia, fueron 14 gaviotas del mar. Los conté para asegurarse. 14 gaviotas del mar. Dando vueltas por el estacionamiento, en busca de comida. Mi casa está a miles de kilómetros del mar. Pensé para mis adentros: "¿Qué están haciendo aquí? Están tan fuera de lugar.” Mi siguiente pensamiento fue, "Tal vez ellos son los que se supone que están aquí. Tal vez nosotros son los fuera de lugar."
