High Point

There comes a time in a person’s career where they have had a great success, achieved a task, have had something truly awesome happen to them. We call these things high points. I had such a highpoint in my writing career.

A few months ago, I began following the Everyone Matters campaign via Facebook. Everyone Matters is a social media phenomenon to promote inclusiveness and, as founder Heathcliff Rothman writes, acts as “a collective message to judge others less, see the humanity in everyone, and emphasize that everyone has the right to be who they are.”

A month or so ago I made contact with the Everyone Matters campaign, and shared my recent poem, “Nothing To Fix”:

Then the most exciting thing happened. Heathcliff Rothman wrote me and asked me, “How does being a poet make you feel? Why do you write poetry?”

I wrote him back: 

"Being a poet is amazing for me-it is the only way I can truly express myself. I can be who and what I am without any judgment or criticism. And I have a worldwide audience that reads my words, and that is very humbling to me. I began to write to express myself. I was surprised to learn that anyone would want to read what I have to say. If I can help someone with something they're going through, well, that's the reason I made a blog of my writing. Helping someone going through a similar struggle or challenge, that is amazing to me. What a gift."

To my surprise, less than an hour later, the Everyone Matters campaign featured me on their Facebook page. Being mentioned on their page brought over 100 new readers to my blog in a day, which was amazing to me.

Even more amazing, my photo and statement appeared on the Everyone Matters Facebook page, but on their website as well. On the bottom of their website there is a feed to their Facebook page. For a day I was on the same website as such celebrities as Dame Judy Dench, Ellen Degeneres, Hugh Jackman, and Sir Paul McCartney. That is certainly an amazing high point.

My sincere thanks to Heathcliff Rothman and everyone at Everyone Matters for promoting my page on Facebook, and for promoting my blog, and giving me the greatest highpoint of my literary career.

Punto Alto

Llega un momento en la carrera de una persona donde han tenido un gran éxito, lograr una tarea, algo verdaderamente impresionante ha tenido pasar a ellos. Llamamos a estas cosas puntos altos. Tenía tal un punto álgido en mi carrera de escritora.

Hace unos meses empecé a raíz de la campaña de Todos Asuntos a través de Facebook. Todos Asuntos es un fenómeno de social media para promover la inclusión y, como escribe el fundador Heathcliff Rothman, actúa como "un mensaje colectivo para juzgar a los demás menos, ver la humanidad en todo el mundo y destacar que todo el mundo tiene derecho a ser quienes son".

Un mes o hace hice contacto con todos para campaña de asuntos y compartir mi reciente poema, ”No Hay Nada Para Fijar”:

Entonces ocurrió lo más emocionante. Heathcliff Rothman me escribió y me preguntó: "¿Cómo ser un poeta te hace sentir? ¿Por qué se escribe poesía?"

Le escribí de vuelta:

"Ser poeta es increíble para mí-es la única manera de verdaderamente puedo expresarme. Puedo ser quien y lo que soy sin juicio ni crítica. Y tengo un público en todo el mundo lee mis palabras, y que es muy humillante para mí. Comencé a escribir para expresarme. Me sorprendió saber que alguien quiera leer lo que tengo que decir. Si yo puedo ayudar a alguien con algo que están pasando, bien, que es la razón por la que hice un blog de mi escritura. Ayudando a alguien pasando por una lucha similar o el desafío, es increíble para mí. Qué un regalo."

Para mi sorpresa, menos de una hora más tarde, la campaña de todos los asuntos destacados me en su página de Facebook. Se menciona en su página que reunió más de 100 nuevos lectores a mi blog en un día, que fue increíble para mí.

Aún más sorprendente, mi foto y declaración aparecieron en la página de Facebook de todos los asuntos, pero en su página web también. En la parte inferior de su página web hay un feed a su página de Facebook. Un día estaba en el mismo sitio web como tal celebridades como Dame Judy Dench, Ellen Degeneres, Hugh Jackman y Sir Paul McCartney. Sin duda es un punto increíble álgido.
