I recently wrote this poem for a literary project I'm working on. Enjoy. :)
A Magical Night
I remember I was so excited when I heard that he was going
to come to my town. Marcel Marceau, here, in person. I was so excited to hear
that he was coming. He had given a performance in another town in my state
several years before. But now, finally he was coming to my town. I finally held
the holy grail in my hands, the ticket to his show.
I remember when the night came I was ecstatic. The theater
was alive with energy as we the audience sat there, waiting for the magic to
begin. It would soon become clear that this was no ordinary night at the
theater. A night of fantasy, magic and enchantment awaited us. The lights
finally went down. I had waited for this moment my whole life. The curtain
opened and the lights came on. The master himself came onto the stage.
There, on the stage, was Marcel Marceau, the greatest mime
in the world. The audience rose and cheered and applauded. The sound was
deafening. We stood and applauded for minutes on end. The applause finally died
down. The show began. I remember sitting there, enraptured. Monsieur Marceau
had the entire theater in the palm of his hand. Over the course of the evening
he had the audience laughing in hysterics and weeping from emotion.
Regrettably, as the years have passed, I have lost certain
details in my memory about that night. However, there are moments about that
night that I will never forget. I remember sitting there spellbound,
transported to another place in time, in rapt attention, completely enchanted.
I never had the good fortune to meet Monsieur Marceau, and I
would only see him on the stage this one time. I am not a mime, and have never
studied it. But that evening made an impression on me that will last a
lifetime. In a time before cell phones, computers and the internet, Monsieur
Marceau was known the world over. He was and still is an iconic figure
throughout the world. After his passing in 2007, the world mourned his passing,
as did I. I am one of a precious few of many thousands of people around the
world who are privileged to say that they saw him perform live. Marcel Marceau
will always be remembered for showing us ourselves, the world around us, our
humanity, and inhumanity.

Una Noche Mágica
Recuerdo que yo estaba muy emocionado cuando me enteré de
que iba a venir a mi ciudad. Marcel Marceau, aquí, en persona. Estaba tan
emocionada de saber que él venía. Él le había dado un rendimiento en otra
ciudad en mi estado varios años antes. Pero ahora, por fin él venía a mi
ciudad. Por último, tuve el santo grial en mis manos, un billete a su
espectáculo.
Recuerdo cuando llegó la noche que estaba extático. El
teatro estaba vivo con energía que la audiencia se sentaba allí, esperando la
magia empezar. Pronto convertiría en claro que esto no ordinaria de la noche en
el teatro. Una noche de fantasía, magia y encanto nos espera. Las luces
finalmente apagaron. Había esperado este momento toda mi vida. Abrió la cortina
y las luces encendieron . El maestro mismo llegó al escenario.
Allí, en el escenario, fue Marcel Marceau, el mejor mimo del
mundo. La audiencia se levantó y aplaudió y aplaudió. El sonido era
ensordecedor. Nos levantamos y aplaudido para minutos. Los aplausos por último
murió hacia abajo. El show comenzó. Recuerdo estar sentado allí extasiada.
Monsieur Marceau había todo el teatro de la palma de su mano. A lo largo de la
noche había las carcajadas de histeria y llorando de emoción.
Lamentablemente, a medida que han pasado los años, he
perdido algunos detalles en mi memoria acerca de esa noche. Sin embargo, hay
momentos de esa noche que nunca olvidaré. Me acuerdo de sentarme allí
cautivado, transportado a otro lugar a tiempo, en la atención absorta,

sólo lo veo en el escenario una vez. No soy una mima y nunca han estudiado.
Pero que por la noche hizo una impresión en mí durará toda la vida. En un
tiempo antes de teléfonos celulares, computadoras e internet, Monsieur Marceau
fue conocida en todo el mundo. Fue y sigue siendo una figura icónica en todo el
mundo. Después de su muerte en 2007, el mundo lloró su muerte, igual que yo.
Soy uno de preciosos pocos de muchos miles de personas alrededor del mundo que
tienen el privilegio de decir que lo vieron actuar en directo. Marcel Marceau
será recordado por siempre por mostrarnos nosotros mismos, el mundo alrededor
de nosotros, nuestra humanidad y inhumanidad.
